The Sims 4 has a new life stage: Infants! With the free base game update, you’ll now be able to interact with your young Sims earlier than before and set them up for a lifetime of excitement. Once your family’s newborns age up into Infants (or if you decide to go the adoption route), they’ll have their own needs, emotions, and sentiments about their caretakers.

Raising an infant is no easy task, however. Gone are the days of Sims 4 babies being contained to their bassinets until they age into a toddler - infants can crawl, throw food, and they have new personality traits - and the good news is we've provided some tips and tricks to raising Infants and getting them off on the right track!

Upon aging into an Infant, you can choose between 6 new Traits for your Sim:

Calm: These Sims like to watch the world, are less likely to cry or become angry, and don't grow tired of activities as easily as other infants; however, they are less likely to explore the world on their own. Cautious: These Sims appreciate the familiar, but are slow to warm up to new experiences, locations, and Sims. Intense: These Sims have big emotions and are easily entertained, but they are also more difficult to calm when in a bad mood. Sensitive: These Sims are prone to diaper rash, are often picky with food, and can more easily become overstimulated by too much play and social interaction; however, they also rest more peacefully through the night when soothed. Sunny: These Sims are bursting with smiles and giggles and enjoy engaging with other Sims, but they do require more social attention. Wiggly: These Sims are always on the go and want to play and move about; however, they often struggle to fall asleep or pay attention for extended periods of time.

Each trait has its own unique temperament. For example, cautious infants will appreciate being near familiar Sims and places but can take longer to warm up to new experiences. Also, a cautious infant will be less inclined to like new foods straight away; they’ll need to try it a few times before they decide if they like it or not. These new traits can also be chosen within Create A Sim.

Using A Crib

Infants have upgraded from bassinets to cribs and you can take them with you on the go! These are perfect if your Sim family is constantly going out and vacationing to new places.

You can also opt for an upgradeable crib, which can be transformed into a toddler bed when your Infant is ready for the next stage of their life.

Infants with the Wiggly trait will especially enjoy the new mobile upgrade that can be attached to their crib to help them fall asleep (and stay asleep).High Chairs Are A Must

High chairs aren't just for toddlers anymore. If you want to keep an eye on your infant who is eager to explore their new world, be sure to purchase a high chair to keep them from getting up to too much mischief while they eat.

Additionally, infants can try new foods when they are placed in a high chair. You can try them all to see what your baby will enjoy the most!

Build A Playpen

Speaking of keeping an eye on your new bundle of joy, you can build a playpen to prevent them from getting outside and wandering around the yard. Playpens can be found in Build Mode and in the fences category.

Speaking of keeping your infants in the home, you can also Apply Baby Proofing to doors. Try clicking on your front door and Apply Baby Proofing through the Lock For... selection wheel.

Raising infants is hard work. We've brainstormed some strategies to make your Sim's life just a little bit easier!

The easiest infant traits to care for are definitely Calm and Cautious. They won't explore as readily as the others, but they won't get in trouble either. Remember to lock doors and playpens in the home to prevent infants from crawling outside. Infants can be affected by weather outside, so it's important to keep an eye on them! Purchase a bath tub to bathe any infants in your home. Also, if you don't have laundry in your home, diapers will be thrown on the floor. Don't foget to throw them away. If you have purchased the Growing Together expansion pack, infants can gain a bonus trait upon aging into a Toddler. To help them gain this bonus trait, you must interact with them and teach them about their surroundings: they will learn to crawl, sit up, and interact with objects. By doing so, your infants could get a bonus trait upon aging!Up Next: BabiesPreviousInfantsNextBabiesTop Guide SectionsCheat CodesGetting StartedSkillsGrowing Together GuideWas this guide helpful? In This Wiki GuideThe Sims 4The Sims 4The Sims StudioSep 2, 2014RatingESRB: TeenPlatformsPlayStation 4Xbox OneMacintoshPCJohn Wick: Chapter 4 - Official Final TrailerJohn Wick: Chapter 4 - Official Final TrailerCheck out the new, action-packed trailer for John Wick: Chapter 4, the upcoming movie starring Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, and Ian McShane.John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating the High Table.
